Vivisto black rhino endangered species monitoringAs a conservation volunteer, you'll provide essential hands on assistance among three different game reserves in Zululand. You'll be contributing directly to the success and survival of just a handful of the 400 endangered species in Africa.

This project is extremely popular and ideal for the adventurous traveller with a passion for wildlife and the outdoors. We are also able to arrange research projects for those studying or wanting a career in wildlife or conservation management, to assist your coursework or end or year thesis.

As one of only 4 team members, you'll form an agile team working in the bush every day, closely monitoring Cheetah, African Wild Dog, Black Rhino, Vultures and other game.

Plus: * Tracking wildlife from an open 4x4 vehicle via radio telemetry * setting up  camera traps at watering holes and game trails * Mapping sightings using GPS equipment * Photographing & creating identity kits of animals * studying teh animal behavioural for research purposes * Completing large scale game counts.

Depending  on how long you join the team, you could be lucky enough to experience;

*Radio collaring of animals *Notching (identity marking) of animals like rhino and elephant *Scouting for and releasing animals from poachers snares *Night tracking excursions for Hyena *relocation and re-introduction of endangered species.

Zululand is also known as the heartbeat of Africa. You'll be based in Northern Kwa-Zulu Natal and will spend your time at Mkuze,(as seen on TV, Game Rangers In South Africa), Tembe, Thanda and Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserves. You'll stay within the reserves and will be rotated every two to four weeks, depending on the length of your stay and what work is beng carried out. Volunteers will share a room in volunteer houses within the reserve and also have the opportunity to camp out under the stars.

Cost & Inclusions

First 2 weeks £520 per week
4 to 12 weeks £410 per week
